It would have taken too long, (there were over 40,000 people in Northampton alone in 1871) and
I didn't want the project to take too long to complete. I decided from the start that a complete
"surname" index would be better than an incomplete full index. Please remember, this index is an
aid to finding your ancestors on the census, not a full transcription.

* The census is stored on Microsoft Excel and can be searched by any of the given fields.
* There is a printed copy (Northampton town centre only) at the Northampton Records Office.
